John Lynch is a leading international conductor and a dual citizen of the United States and Australia. He is currently Director of Bands and Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and was formerly Director of Bands at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. There he created the first comprehensive university band program in the nation’s history and founded the Verbrugghen Ensemble, the professional faculty ensemble-in-residence.

Prior to that he served as Director of Bands and Professor of Music at the University of Georgia and the University of Kansas. He was the conductor of Chicago’s Northshore Concert Band, the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, and founder of the Greater New York Wind Symphony and the KU/Kansas City Youth Wind Symphony.

He has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia including the national conferences of the College Band Directors National Association, the American Bandmasters Association and the National Association for Music Education, the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the Australian National Band and Orchestra Conference, Midwest, and Interlochen. A passionate advocate for new music he has commissioned, recorded, and premiered works from around the globe with a focus on diversity. He is a recording artist with Naxos and Klavier Records. John Lynch is the recipient of the American Prize, the Georgia Creative Research Medal, the Stanbury Award for outstanding teaching and conducting, and a Northwestern University Searle Fellow for Teaching Excellence. He holds degrees from Indiana University, the Eastman School of Music and the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
